The Nyes discuss family history; Miriam's years as a college student at Buena Vista and Morningside Colleges; limited job and education opportunities for young women; teaching in rural schools; John's turkey farming business; improvements to the farmland; livestock predators (foxes, coyotes, owls); deadly effects of severe weather on livestock (hailstorms, blizzards); Miriam's career as a columnist for the Sioux City Journal and occasional contributor to The Iowan and the Annals of Iowa; and the couple's courtship during European tours (second marriage for each of them).
